I am looking for a good server with Linux solution for the following:

Web- and mail server hosting 15 000+ users.

When adding a new user, he/she will automatically get mail access, and a folder for personal webpages. Mail must support both pop3 and webmail. It should also be possible for users to create their own mail aliases.

I need a good backup solution and RAID disks. What RAID level would you recommend for this case?

What approximate price level will such a solution reach?

Any tips will be appreciated!

Thanks!

> You will definitely need to machines. If you run Sendmail and Apache on the same server. SPAM will kill it.

*1st Server: runs Apache, Local Mail

*2nd Server: runs Sendmail, milter-greylist, ClamAV, and SpamAssassin.

This is the solution I use for 100,000 users that have webmail access, forums, etc..

> This one is not going to be an easy one. Giving the users access to modify their accounts is tricky.

"I need a good backup solution and RAID disks. What RAID level would you recommend for this case?"

> I use rsync between to local machines (ex: webserver, backup). As for a RAID solution RAID 5 is the way to go.
If a drive blows (which has happened to me twice) your system will still run until you get drive replacement.

"What approximate price level will such a solution reach?"

> That depends on if this solution is going to be co-located (rack mounts) or hosted internally (towers). Many factors involved when determining a price.

Any tips will be appreciated!

Thanks!
