I'm a newbie to creating ecommerce sites. I have a SQL Server database on Windows 2000 Server. I've created .asp pages to insert and view records, display items etc. How do I publish this to the internet and make it viewable to users? If I have IIS, can I publish it from there or do I need a web host. And do I keep the database on my computer or ftp to the host? Sorry about the seeming stupidity of these questions. Thanks

1.. If oyu have windows 2000, you can host your own website, if it is on a 24 hour active unit...

2.. IF you have iis, then you can publish TO that, IIS is the windows program that allows you to create and host your own sites, simply, create a new website from the iis admin panel, and point it to the folder with all your asp pages into, YOU DONT EVEN NEED TO PUBLISH UNLESS YOU HAVE Front page server extensions.

3.. If you have mysql, installed on your computer, then you should have no problem running your site from your own computer... so you would not even need to upload that...

4.. If you try to use your own computer, you will be able to access your site, from outside using

or

from your own computer

you can then purchase your own domain name and get it pointed to your unit.. so that when someone types in the domain the web page displays

Simple, Grin.....

Thanks

Thanks, that at least gets me started. You were helpful. Do you know of any good Ecommerce books on the market?
