I recently acquired a used NEC Mark II system with the manual. I do not profess to be a telephone technician, though I have some experience some years back. I have arranged for a technician to come and assist with this as a favor but if the system does not work I don't want him to bother driving to this remote location for nothing.

I have run into a small problem while trying to hook up a terminal for programming. According to the manual (table 200-16) wht/blu & blu/wht should be tip & ring respectively. However I am getting no voltage across those two conductors when connected this way. I DO get voltage from wht/blu to wht/org or org/wht and from blu/wht to wht/org or org/wht. I tried different ports and five different cards with the same result.

Does anyone here have any experince with this unit or is anyone aware of some other resources that may be called upon?

The MarkII phones are Dterm series II phones, which mean they work on two pairs. The first pair W/B needs to be connected to the jack with W/B to green; B/W to the red. The second pair is W/O, with W/O to the black; and O/W to the yellow. The first 2 ports ( off the first station card ) need to be connected to 16 button display sets or the system won't come up. The other station ports need to be told what kind of phones are on them if they are different. Hope this helps!

Fixin,

Thanks for the feedback. I already had the first port wired as you stated (two pairs) to a 16 button display phone (ETE-16D-2). However I did not have the second port wired. Just to be clear, are you saying that both ports 1 & 2 need to be connected before the sys will init (as opposed to just port 1)?

Thanks again for the feedback

If I remenber correctly they do wire w/b b/w w/o o/w on equipment side but require a three pair jack on station side with w/o o/w going to third pair on the jack.

I just tried it and only the first station port needs to be connected to the 16 button display phone on power up. the second port is a 16D as well but isn't needed to initalize the system. 2 pair jacks work fine. wire gr-r-bk-y respectfully.

Some of the NEC do Require 3 pair jacks and the second pair from switch terminates on third pair.

Thanks again Fixin,

If you actually have a Mark II system and have it connected as described can you tak ea voltage reading across grn, red, blk & yel then let me know what you have?

I would surely appreciate it.

G+R=.0012vdc same for B+Y. Specs on Dterm say 20ma normal current. 50vac for ring and 53-88vdc for lamp.

OK, got a terminal up.... now if I could just figure out how to set the clock..... :^{

Thanks for all the help!

At the first port press CNF * then put in data pressing DSS btn 20 in between entries. Use the line keys to enter the month.
