Note: I found a neat utility that may help serial external modem users. I was hoping that it would help my problem with NetWaiting, but no such luck. However, it does seem to enhance the crispness of my web surfing and I haven't connected at less than 48kbps since I installed it (and I'm about 10 mi. away from my ISP's nearest PoP - used to get 46.6kbps most often.
. It is called SHSMOD (serial high speed mod). It can set your serial port speed to run at:
ALI: (230400,460800bps)
NS: (230400,460800,921600bps)
SMC: (230400,460800bps)
WinBond: (230400,460800,921600bps)
VIA VT82C686A/B: (230400,460800bps)
for the supported chips. This can enhance the responsiveness of your modem if its serial port can also operate at such speeds. Here is the link: . Enjoy!
