After some trouble, I came across this tip that doesnt seem to be documented anywhere, and I thought I'd pass it along.
The device I was using was the RIM 957, XP home sp1, Outlook 2000 Sr3
When setting up, and trying to connect via the desktop manager, Outlook MUST be configured for corporate. It will not work with internet only Outlook setups. If internet only is configured, when opening DM, it will give a Miscorosft error and then close after you choose to send or dont send error report.
Once you switch to corporate, everything will run smoothly. Blackberry uses MAPI transports that are only installed via the corportare setup.
