Timeout value for backups using SQL commands

I have to backup a database using the SQL commands

EXEC sp_addumpdevice ...
BACKUP DATABASE ...
EXEC sp_dropdevice ...

and when I do it times out (the DB is quite large). I can't find how to increase the timeout value. It doesn't appear to be using that of the connection I have established at the time nor any other value that I can find.
