Hello

I am trying to backup between 15 and 20 GB from a remote NT 4 workstation.

The AS host is an NT 4 server running AS 2000 SP 4. The workstation has Client Agent for AS installed and configured.

Problem:
I am backing up to a Compaq 12/24 GB DDS-3 DAT drive.
If I backup data local to the AS server, I can fit more than 12GB on a single DAT cartridge. However:
Whether or not I use the AS client or "network neighborhood" to back up from the workstation, I get the following message just shy of 12GB:
"Next media archivetest, ID 790D, sequence #2", and I can not backup additional data to the cartridge.

Is this an NT timeout issue that requires a registry change? Are there any other thoughts?
Thanks for your help.

I think there is some extra overhead when you backup another server besides the local computer. For example, if you backup 100 MB of data, more than 100 MB of data will get written to the tape, especially if it is talking to a client agent on another server. Still, if you don't use an agent and connect using Network Neighborhood, Arcserve still adds more data to the stream, pushing you onto another tape. As for why you can't go to another tape, I can't tell from what you've posted here. There are usually more lines in the Activity Log that tell you what's going on. It could be just a timeout issue, which can be set from the job options window.
