TIMEOUT EXPIRED Distributed Transaction Issue

We are using a distributed transaction from a SQL Server2000 box to a 7.0 box. KB article Q195542
(describes the problem which we run into exactly, but it also mentions that it is only a problem with Server version 6.5 and was fixed in Service pack 5 for 6.5.

We are running Service pack 1 on the 7.0 server, and SQL Server 2000 RTM.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks....
