Picked up a service contract with new customer that was not happy with there previous service provider. Site is looking to go to Time Warner Cable sip trunks. I have always used a firewall or sbc when installing sip trunks but Time Warner told them nothing is needed. The customer does not want to pay for the cost of an extra devise, that they are told, is not needed. Am I missing something with the hand off from Time Warner? Time Warner states they hand off to a Innomedia ESBC, which is different then a SBC, correct?

Any feed back on Innomedia ESBC or Time Warner Sip trunks would be great.

Thanks!

Warner can have biggest ESBC in the Universe, still it will not protect the customer IPO in any scenario.
It will only make sure that Warner are in the clear should any hacking occur.

Now, the customer might have been told the truth, IF the connection between Warner and customer is a closed private circuit (like MPLS without internet service).
But this is something you would know already, and in many cases easily spotted.
The "public" IP at the customer would probably be a private one, for instance 10.0.x.x.

If not, they need a firewall/SBC, or you have them sign a waiver....or walk away:)

Kind regards

Gunnar

Not done a TWC SIP trunk on an IPO but I have on another system. They do give their SBC an IP in your private network. Be it a vlan for the IPO or just an IP in the data network if they are not separate.

I've had ongoing issues with my one customer using them with straight SIP. Seem to have issues with callers from cell phones not always having DTMF recognized and putting them on hold disconnects the call but only from certain carriers. TWC has been unable to fix this and points the finger back at the originating carrier.
