time required to grow database

I am trying to bulk insert a table that is 40 gb. I believe it would be in my best interest to adjust the size of the database to this size before inserting the data, does anybody have an opinion on this? Also, how much time will it take to grow a db from 1 gig to 40 gb.

I don't know about the bulk insert but to create/increase takes 15mins per GB

Are you suggesting coconuts migrate?

sorry forgot to say these times are based on the servers we use p4 2GHZ with 512MB RAM so greater ram may be quicker
