I just installed a new system 4.0 and the time and date is not updating from the time and date field in the element manager, i tried rebooting several times and loaded the su5 patch still no change. then i manually changed the time via a M7310 i put in the server room as a maintenance phone and the time stuck. i have never changed the time on a BCM through the phone and had it take, then again i have never had a bcm or norstar with a Time date problem either, any one out there seen anything like this or have any suggestions.

Same thing. Never had a time/date stick through telset programming, except once. My side kick did it, I didn't believe it, but he changed it in front of me. It worked.

That is the good thing with telset is you can program it all(basic setup) thru the phone.
And if you dont exit the time correctly using your PC it wont stick.
The pre 4.0 was windows NT and you wernt suppose to do anything thru the phone now with linix you can.

Assuming the BCM is networked you should configure an NTP server for it to synchronize with, then you won't have to mess with or worry about the time again. Under Element Manager -> System -> Data & Time, select NTP as the time source and use something like time.nist.gov, but make sure you have a DNS server defined under IP subsystem.

I have problems with 4.0 and NTP. We have time servers on our private network, sometimes the time updates but not at the frequency I set and sometimes only when I turn off NTP and turn it back on.

I'd never use an NTP server. I had a Call Center using NTP. They had a loss of power and some how the BCM got a time from the NTP server in the year 2021. By the time the customer figured it out, they had 1 1/2 days of RCC with a date in the future. Screwed up all reports. Had to have ITAS go in and purge all info.

I had a this problem and opened a nortel trouble ticket. They suggested to advance the time 10 seconds in the element manager. I thought I was just getting more crap level 1 tech support, but it worked like a charm.
