One of my time fields is showing in Field explorer as string type.

The field in excel is Time type.

CR sees it as a String, but doesn't show anything when you browse the field.

V8.5
Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

It needs to have an actual value the first posistion Crystal is expecting one (first row after header). If not it assignes a type of string.

Excel is a horrible data source.

The trick Lisa refers to has become a standard practice for me, I always insert a false row in the spreadsheet which clearly identifies the data type, otherwise they all get converted to a type string.

Then I just suppress the first row (onfirstrecord).

OK, I added a dummy time entry to my excel database
and I am now at least seeing something.
However CR still thinks it is a String .

When I browse the data, it looks like
this: 1899- 12-30 00:00:00

All my other DateTime type fields look like
this: 12/30/1889 12:05:00 AM

Any more ideas?

Dont suppose u have the report options set to
convert datetime to string?

I got it to work.

I ended up disconnecting my odbc,
formatting the time in the excel database on a blank line on the top.
I made the dummy time 00:00:00
Excel saw this as Time type like before.

I then reset all locations in my main report, as well as my 21 subreports. (that was alot of work)

Thanks for the tips,

Andy
