I'm trying to get a Timberwolf 9730 working with a Sun V880 system. The hardware is recognized in Open Boot when I do a probe-scsi-all: one STK 9730 and two Quantum DLT7000 drives.

Doing a boot -r doesn't created the expected devices at /dev/st or /dev/sg. My research tells me I need the exact parameters added to [red]/kernel/drv/st.conf[/red] for this to work. I found a sample config in a QFS install guide for an STK 9840, and adapted it to my st.conf ...

tape-config-list =
"STK 9730", "STK 9730 TimberWolf", "CLASS_9730",
"QUANTUM DLT7000", "DLT 7000 tape drive", "dlt7-tape";
CLASS_9730 = 1,0x36,0,0x1d679,1,0x00,0;
dlt7-tape = 1,0x36,0,0xd679,4,0x82,0x83,0x84,0x85,3;

... but still no happiness. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

The 9730 does not need an entry in st.conf.

What software are you using to do backups?

For now, I'm using an eval of Arkeia 5.2.7

Arkeia can't detect the tape hardware, though it's probably expecting something at /dev/st or similar.

Post the following:

How many tape drives are there?

How are they connected?

What is the contents of /dev/rmt?

Post your st.conf?

When your system starts up does it detect the library and drives? Check your /var/adm/messages file.

Go to an OK prompt, type PROBE-SCSI-ALL and see if it lists the drives and library?

comtec17,
Thanks for your help with this issue. Turns out, the SCSI adapter was bad. After installing a new one,
both Solaris & Arkeia see the drives & library.

A salesdroid at Arkeia also sent me some config files and docs. Using these, I was able to create the
[red]/dev/rmt[/red] and [red]/dev/rsst2[/red] devices. If anyone would like a copies of these, please email me.

Here are the answers to the questions in your last post.

Thanks,
