I have had a problem for some time with the backgrounds in a tiff turning a very light shade of gray when the file is printed to a laser printer or exported as a pdf in PM7 on both my XP and Win2000 computers.

I have tried using an EPS, but that is even worse. Until recently I only used PSE 2 and thought maybe it was an RGB issue.

The problem occurs with both transparent and white canvases.

This summer I got CS2 and am hoping that using a full version of Photoshop saved in CMYK will resolve the issue. My complaint about CMYK is that the output always looks so dark and muddy even after using the Levels command to brighten it up.

Any thoughts? Will this problem disappear when I start using InDesign? Right now I am just in the playing stages with InDesign.

You should have far less problems with Design Suite CS2 as colour management is far better and common across the suite.

Click here for some handy tips about images and colour in PM.

John,

I am going to make the switch to InDesign for my own publications, but all of my clients still have PM. I know that it is possible to open PM docs in ID, but will that create more problems for me than it will solve?

Thanks,

Daniel

I've had really little problem when opening PM files with InD. I don't think there's been a single falure, and in general I'm pleased with the conversion.

Onve I realised that InD only uses frames and that is was not unlike Illustrator, I was away.

Everything in InD works - there is no need for workarounds - it just does it! and creating PDFs is a breeze.

To accelerate learning, I'd suggest converting a PM file which the user created as the place to start.
