Hi;
I read with interest the discussion between TCARPENTER and Alfred, about Al's "disappearing" ticks. I have the same problem he had (has?)! Mine don't disappear, they ALWAYS go to the "FRAMING" layer. I'm working on, say, HVAC. I add a dimension or leader and just the tick or arrowhead goes to FRAMING. I have to explode the entire thing twice, once causes the dim to break up but the arrow is still a unit of 3 pieces and still CLAIMS to be on HVAC. So, then I explode just the arrow to break those up and properties tells me that each of the 3 pieces are on FRAMING and it allows me to move the arrow to HVAC. Course, my dims are hardley associative anymore....
I seem to lack the ability to understand the DIMBLK discussion as it was presented to Alfred and I was hoping you would try again with me. The other forum got off on the vplayer thing and I think I need to figure out the DIMBLK thing!
Anyone out there know what I'm doing wrong??
Mucho Gracias for any help!
Sharon

Do you have custom blocks for arrowheads/tics as defined by the DIMBLK variable? If so, your custom blocks may have been created on the FRAMING layer rather than layer 0, which might cause the problem you're having.

Hey Carl;
Thank you for you reply, but I don't KNOW the answer to your queston "Do you have custom blocks for arrowheads/tics as defined by the DIMBLK variable?" Apparently there are a few of us out here that don't know how to check this DIMBLK variable. Can you explain how to do this? To my knowledge I have never messed with the defaults, and would be very happy if the arrowheads and ticks would be visible on the layer that the rest of the dim or leader is on.
Sorry to sound so dense, but I am new to this stuff...

Well....it's probably easier than you might think, just type "DIMBLK". That would report type of arrowhead being used in the current style. If blank, then I believe the default, "closed filled" arrowhead is being used. You could also go to your dimension style manager, and under "Arrowheads" see if a "User Arrow" has been selected. If so, it should there give the block name being used.

Carl;
Your're right... that's easy. However, it doesn't lead me to an understanding of how to cure my problem. What I seem to have when I check into the Dimension Style Mngr. and click on either Modify OR Overide is arrowheads that are "integral" (which IS what DIMBLK tells me too!) and my leader is set to "open". What I don't get is why the little hash marks or the arrowheads won't stay on the layer that is current when I create them. The extension lines, the dimension lines and the leader lines stay wherever I put them, but not the little ends. If I create a "leader" say while on the Electrical layer, and the Framing layer is turned "off for display", the arrowhead (which is made up of three little line segments once exploded) WILL NOT show up until I turn ON the Framing layer. Then I HAVE to explode the whole thing to get "Properties" to tell me that those little pieces are in fact ON the framing layer so that I can then send the arrowhead back onto the Electrical layer. When I list the properties of an "un-exploded" leader, it tells me that it's on the Electrical layer. Do you see the problem? I'm fairly certain that this is something simple, but it is surely driving me batty!
Thanks for your help.

I'd be glad to take a look at a drawing with one of those problem dimensions. Save as 2002 if you're on 2004 or 2005. Email me at cabATSIGNeeiteamDOTcom.
