I'm looking to find out if a service loop is required in any type of backbone cabling. We have a vendor that just installed a 12 strand fiber optic cable and a 25pair cat3 cable from one of our building to another one. They did not leave any service loops and we would like to try and have them fix there work. I was just wondering if anyone out there has the TIA / EIA books and if they could tell me what section this would be found in.

Thanks
Chad Miller

Unless you speced the job with service loops or that it be done to TIA/EIA or any other standards or rules you probably won't get far with the vendor. You should always get what you want to have happen in writing and signed by both parties before the work starts. (Boy, don't I know)

the only "fix" at this point would be to pull new cable

I dont see any vendor doing that willingly unless like franklin says you have it specked in writing

25 pair terminated properly doesn't need a service loop. You ever see the telco guys leave one ?

Well , you don't see the telco guys ever label anything either. That doesn't mean its the right way to do things.
