Ive got a document created with Acrobat 5. When it is opened in Acrobat Reader the thumbnails work fine. If I open it from a web page using a machine with Reader 7 on it, the thumbnails work fine. If I open it from a web page on a workstation with Reader 5 Installed, the thumbnails are just grey pages. Ive got 200+ workstations and I dont want to update them to Reader 7. Can anyone tell me why thumbnails dont work? Is there some way around having to update everything to reader 7?

any suggestions would be apprecited..

It's quite possible that the PDF was made with a newer version of Acrobat, in which case an older version of Reader cannot display the PDF. It's like any software - the newer versions can open older versions but not the other way round. It's not like you have to PAY to upgrade to Reader 7.
