Thumbnails colors are coming out funny using gd_library

Help,

I've been using this upload and thumbnail script for this site i'm working on and the thumbnails are coming out with their colors looking weird, but the full size images look fine...I cant remeber where i got the original source from but i think it worked fine on my old site..not sure though

take a look and let me know if you've ever seen anything like it...

Hint:
Inspect your thumbnail that is produced in an image editor. You will see that it is a 128 color palette GIF file. There's something with the settings for the exported thumbnail.

Where are you saying its a gif, the output in the browser is jpg though...i looked everywhere and couldnt find a call to use a pallet or anything...what now????
