Here is the situation:

We have Netbackup 5 running, backing up our data that is stored on both NAS and SAN devices. The backup server is pulling all the data throught he network, using the host clients for backup. We use UNC names to backup the NAS data. The Master Media Server has a Gig network connection, and is connected to an ADIC Scalar 100 SDLT tape library with 2 drives. The NAS has dual Gig connections for load balancing. The servers being used to host the clients for backup have Gig cards as well.

The NAS is configured into 1 master volume that is shared out as 4 virtual drives to the users. 3 of the 4 shared drives backup with a throughput of 30+ meg, but we have one that is only backing up at 5-8 meg. An incronmental of this drive is taking over 14 hours. This is causing our backup window to close before all the backups are completed, so some data is being missed.

Why would 1 virtual drive backup so much slower than the other 3 virtual drives? They are on the same device, and are actually part of the same volume.

What can i do to increase the throughput of that backup job?
