Hi, does anyone know if it is possible to use separte threads for the different subreport sections in a report or something? I am getting a performance issue when I include subreports or other fields into my report where the report, after including 3 subreports, takes an extra 10 seconds to load, and if I load the whole report it can take upwards of 35 seconds. Any ideas on threads or how else to improve the performance issues? thank you

Does your report have Page of Pages or similar?
Are the subreports linked on Master/Child?
Are these fields indexed?

Hi dhookum,
Yes - My report does have a paging system at the bottom of every page.
Yes - all of the subreports are linked based on master/child links
Not 100% sure if all of these fields are indexed, but I ran the perfomance scan and let it do its work with indexing. Which fields do I need to check for indexing? thanks

What happens if you remove the [Pages] from your report? How about removing both [Page] and [Pages]?

Any field used to link master/child or used to sort should be indexed.

Hi dhookom,
I have tried removing [pages] and [page] fields from the report and it does not make any difference.

I have checked the indexes in the tables, and all of the linked fields are indexed individually, there are some tables that have combinations of the fields as well.

Would you happen to have any other suggestions I could try? thank you

Normally removing the Page of Pages will make a dramatic difference in report rendering. The only other tip that I can offer is the possibility of using temporary tables for reporting where the permanent tables are large or the record source contains complex queries.

Hi dhookom,
Thank you for your posts. I have no idea why my reports are printing so slow. I can print the report in 35seconds from my computer, but the users computers take 8 minutes for the same report, and their computers have more processing power and ram than I have.

I know that the subreports have some pretty complex queries but it is baffling because the same result should occur on my computer as the users if the queries were the issue, am I correct in that logic?

Thanks

Is your report set to print to a specific printer rather than the users' default printer?

Hi dhookom,
No we have selected the same default printer in the office, and mine prints within 35 seconds, while his takes 8 minutes. I hace checked the processes running on his computer and nothing seems out of the ordinary, virus scanners haven't found anything either. I'm kinda lost on what to check next. Thanks

You stated all PCs have the same default printers but didn't say if the report was pointed to the default printers or a specific printer.

Do all workstations have the same versions of the printer drivers? Also, do all PCs run the same virus scanner?

How fast does the report's record source queries run?

Hi sorry
the printers print the reports on the same cannon default printer in the office, it is not set into the code anywhere.

All computers/workstations have the same version of printer drivers install and yes all computers in the office are running the same virus scanner.

the reports queries when viewing records is no more than 4 seconds.
when previewing the report on my computer, without filtering I can have a report show in about a minute and a half

What happens if you log into each others workstations? If this doesn't suggest an issue, then my trouble-shooting is exhausted.

HI dhookom,
Thank you for your reply. Logging into other machines? If you mean, what happens when another user logs into that machine the results on the machine are the same, and when the user on the computer with slow reports logs into other machines, it is a comparable speed with the others. Thank you for the help. I think i need to have the user reformat his computer and try again. Thanks.
