I am attempting to bring data from one spreadsheet that has forecast data into another on a monthly basis so I can calculate the monthly change in forecast for each product.

Both spreadsheets are identically formatted but when I attempt to copy from my original forecast document into the monthly report spreadsheet, I get the above error.

I've tried paste special values to the upper left hand cell. I've also tried paste special values, while highlighting the entire range.

How can I get around this?

Thanks.

gdaun,

Based on your error message ("This operation requires merged cells to be identically sized"), I would suggest you first double-check to ensure that the formatting is indeed "identical". Is it possible that in one or the other spreadsheets, there might happen to be a "merge of cells" which is DIFFERENT ? I believe it would only take ONE such "merge of cells" to be DIFFERENT to cause the error message.

Beyond that (i.e. if you double-check and are CERTAIN the two sheets are indeed IDENTICAL), perhaps Excel might have some kind of "internal problem" with the type of data you are attempting to merge.

If this is the case, might you consider setting up your "monthly change in forecast" formulas by using "link formulas" which reference the required cells in the separate file.

If you are dealing with DIFFERENT monthly file names, you could set up a "common filename" whereby you save the current month to the SAME common filename". This way, your file with the "monthly change in forecast" formulas would NOT have to be changed to refer to the NEW month - i.e. the formulas will ALWAYS refer to the same cells within the SAME "common file".

I hope this helps. Please advise as to how you make out.

Give this a whirl........

from the sheet to be copied from...select all then goto format cells, then in the alignment tab see if the merged cells box is completely unchecked if not do so before you copy
