Up until recently I've used simple html to make my sites, only recently (for an easy life) I used publisher, thinking I could just view it in 'source' save along with the picture and viola - it would be ok to upload with filezila. Dead links and no pics.

I was wrong and now I have an amazing site on publisher that I can't do anything with. Do anyone know a way that I can make this a html file that will upload correctly with filezila?

For years I used to fly in regular aeroplanes, then I decided to try using a pedal-cycle. I don't seem to be able to take off - can anyone help?

There are lots of tools around to help you make a website, but I would put Publisher just below Word or FrontPage in my list.

If you need a GUI interface you could try Dreamweaver, but there are many others available. If you're used to HTML, then stick with it - many of the pros here do.

If you have a problem with your page not working, I suggest you post the code here so we can try and help out with specific issues.

Unfortunately, giving "catch-all" advice without seeing any source is difficult.

Hope this helps,
Dan

Thanks,
the web address is
The files I've uploaded are the ones that were produced from the publisher upload procedure for http. The home page is there but no links work, pictures show etc, perhaps you might find some issues in the html here??

Thanks

I went over a site made in Publisher recently, with pages containing a minimum of 200K of HTML TEXT (up to 800K)! I had to do a complete rewrite, and the largest page I had at the end was about 4K of text. Publisher is absolutely HORRID when it comes to creating HTML.

Your main page, as it is, has about 64K of HTML, not as bad as some of what I've seen. If it were designed by hand, it would have about 4K, maybe less, I'd guess. This translates into faster viewing times for visitors to your site, especially on dialup connections.

I didn't think I will agree this strongly with what others said, but seeing the code, I have to say I do. This is terrible. Not only is it bloated, it is also hardly readable. Try avoiding it as much as you can. On a lighter news, I have managed to find references to images -- with all my experience in HTML I could hardly spot it. The images are expected to be in a folder called index_files and images have indescriptive names like image306.gif. I checked and there are no images with this name on the server, not in root, nor the mentioned folder. My guess is that images did not get uploaded to the server. I don't know what Publisher does to store images but try to look for these images locally and send them to the webserver.

I noticed the amount of html there is earlier!

I just don't want to have to re-do it all in html- I've spent loads of time doing this one and I don't know enough html to get anything near the sort of standard this one (should be once it's up properly!)

I don't get why there isn't an easy way to upload it as it is! Or why the html code won't work if I just copy and paste it.... call me ignorant (as I really don't know enough about this sort of thing) but there's gotta be an easy answer! ..... :-/

Vragabond -

This is what I can't understand. The images are in the same folder but don't appear to be able to link into the html. I've also created a folder namely 'index_files' and this still doesn't work. I've tried amending the source of the image in the html to where the image actually is, but this also doesn't make them appear.

What ever I try it just doesn't seem to work! Microsoft has really pulled a fast one here! Why have a web design facility if once you've done it, it can't go on the bl**dy internet!!!

I would suggest you use something like DreamWeaver. While it is not the best editor and I personally would not use it, it is a much better WYSIWYG editor than anything MS has dished out. And I do believe it has a function to clean up Word html code, so it should work with Publisher as well, since they both produce a similar atrocity. HTML code usually is very simple and copying it easy as well as uploading. But when a program creates confusing code like Publisher did, it looks like it is way over your head.

Yes it is way over my head. I don't actually have any dreamweaver software, and last time I tried it I couldn't get the hand of it anyway!

I guess I'll just have to do the whole thing with html then! Nevermind!

Thanks for you help
