I just started doing flash, and i want to create a 3d box, and the lid will open. After much frustrartion i figured that i need a shape tween. So i put that in, but now when i run it, it starts off with the base box, and twists itself all around then comes out with the ending, the opened lid...what am i doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

Hi,

You can control your shape tween by adding shape hints.
After you inserted the shape tween in the timeline, select the first keyframe in your tween and then go to modify > transform >add shape hints (ctrl+shift+h). A small red dot with the letter A will appear. Drag this dot to an important corner of your lid. Then go to the last keyframe of your tween and put the A on the same corner of the opened lid. Repeat these steps for as many corners as it is necessary.
When you watch the tween , you will see that point A actually goes to point A, B to B etc. It can also help if you put the lid in a different layer than the box.

Keep in mind, if it's a very complex tween you're making the result will never be the way you want it to be. The only solution I know in that case is very time consuming. You'll have to draw the changes to your lid in every single frame.

Hope this helps you!
