This company is going a head with Citrix relling and installation, BUT only one engineer is going to be trained

and it isn't me

I've been told i can get a book and the company will pay for it.

You can't learn Citrix properly from a BOOK!

Just as much as you can't pass an XP MCP with just a book (which i didn't)

Looks like i am going to have to stay on this helpdesk bluffing my way through SQL (that book didn't help either)

Help, i want a company with imagination and drive, someone that understands the value of keeping thier engineers fully versed with the products they sell.

I was employed under the pretense that i would be a site engineer (90% of this job so far has been helpdesk) been here a year now.

Just my rant!

Good luck Girth. Those companies do exist, but I have not found one. I have a similar rant.

I was working for an accounting/network integration company that wanted to become a training facility. They did not want to hire any trainers, but rather employ the engineers for training as needed. They needed two MCTs to get CTEC classification, so they sent me and another person to MCT training. MCT requires simply taking a Train the Trainer class, some Microsoft ceritification, and having attended one Microsoft Certified class. I had self-educated myself through my NT 4 MCSE and had never taken a Microsoft class. Once they realized this, rather than send me to a Microsoft class for a product I was actually supporting and that would actually benefit my "real" job function, they wasted the money on my train the trainer class and sent someone else in the company. To top it all off, after all that, they still aren't a CTEC two years later. In my experience, companies rarely do the logical thing.

Oh yeah, one more thing. When I quit that company a few months later, they actually made me re-imberse them for the Train the Trainer class that I had only taken for them and had not received anything for (i.e. I am not an MCT nor did I or do I ever want to be a trainer).

Good Luck to you.

I did the entire CCEA from a book - and the MSCE. I'm planning on upgrading to XP/.NET MCSE from books.

You're half right - it's the hands-on experience that really counts, but those books really can help speed up the processes of getting experience and getting those exams.

If you're looking for a job, try one of the many job sites :)
