Ok...I hope this makes sense.

Currently I have two Exchange servers, my original 2000 box and a new 2007 box (single running all chores). They're both in the same domain, local.com. The 2007 box is doing all the receiving then routing it through the connector that was automatically created when we brought the 2007 box into the mix a few months back. Everything is working fine.

I'm going to have to move my entire domain structure away from local.com to a.b.c as I merge with my parent company overseas. We're going to bring up a DC at my site for domain a.b.c and create a trust between a.b.c and local.com, then install a new Exchange 2007 server into a.b.c. The goal is to eventually migrate all my users, etc. to a.b.c including my mailboxes.

My question - when I bring up the new Exchange 2007 server into a.b.c, what issues will I have as far as migrating the users from the 2000 and 2007 boxes over to the new 2007 box? I'm a bit "blurry" on how I'm going to be able to get the mail to flow to the new box and still "trickle down" to the older two Exchange boxes while I'm migrating the users over.

There are no more PDC's! There are DC's with FSMO roles!

If it were me, I'm move all of the mailboxes to your current 2007 box and kill off the 2000 box. That will make for a cleaner migration. I'm assuming that since a trust doesn't already exist, this is a cross forest migration, and not a child-to-parent migration.

Plan for performance, and capacity takes care of itself. Plan for capacity, and suffer poor performance.

The problem is I'm also in the midst of a migration to Office 2007...right now the majority of users are still on Office 2000, which has problems connecting Outlook 2000 to Exchange 2007.

Yes, this will be a cross forest migration. I currently have a parent/child domain structure which I'm not going to continue. When I'm done everyone will have their objects on a.b.c domain.

It just hit me...since there's a trust setup, I can point my Barracuda to my new Exchange server in a.b.c and then have a connector from it back to my old Exchange servers so the mail will flow to all three.
