I am haveing a problem with my IBM ThinkPad R32 that is running windows 2000 Pro. Recently when I turn the laptop on after it has been off for a couple of hours it will turn on just fine and work for about 10 to 20 minutes then the screen will begin to jump and get all distorted, and then will turn white. I believe that this is a heat issue because it will work if it sits for a little while but I cannot figure out what is over heating. I have take this laptop apart completly and have not found anything apparently wrong (heatsink in place, fan is working fine). I have removed the harddrive and DVD drive to eliminate those as any possible option but nothing changed. I still believe that it is the processor or the video overheating but not sure exactly how to test those short of buying a new processor for it or video. Anyone have any suggestions or heard of a similar problem.

Thanks

If the fans are running and the heatsinks are dust free, then either swapping out the suspected items or having them shop tested is the only way to find the cause of the problem.

You can try hooking it up to a standard monitor to see if it is just the video that is the issue, If it works on a standard monitor, it is most likely the lcd or invertor that is the problem...If it acts the same, it is either the cpu or the system board, as video is soldered on there is no way to seperate from the board.

Thanks for the suggestions. This laptop was actually a friend of mines and he gave it to me when it stoped working. I have tried to attach an external monitor to it and it still had the same results so I really think that it is the CPU over heating in this case.
