Having acquired a 600E recently, I tried to install 2000 but the LCD display was very dim, I uninstalled it and installed NT and the display was fine. IBM told me to update display drivers which I did but it made no difference.
Has anyone else seen/heard of this problem before?
Or have I bought a duff one :-(

If it works in NT properly, then it's a driver issue. The only think I can think of, is that your monitor power settings may be set to Power Save mode. This will lower your LCD to try and conserve power when running on the battery... but this is configurable and could be doing it also while the AC is plugged. Make sure you install the IBM Utilities for your make and model and also remove all power saving features for test purposes. Make sure your laptop is running for performance and not for power saving.
