thinkpad 380D HD lock 1

I have a 380D IBM thinkpad I know the password for both
the log on and the hard drive. When I go to cmos setup
and then to the password section ,, I see the lock symbol
for both ,, but when I try to open it nothing will happen.

It will not let me change or take off the password.

This is pretty easy...when you know how

Power off the machine then back on..
When you get the prompt for the password, enter the current password then press the space bar

This will erase the password..
