hi email users,

I use Outlook Express 6 - it is bloated and full of security holes. I use it on Windows 2000.

I'm considering switching to Mozilla's Thunderbird email client, but I want to do my "homework" first.

Have any of you switched from Outlook Express to Thunderbird?
Was it an easy transition ?
I'd like to get some feedback from some of you that have made switch.

Thanks ! John

Test it and you'll know.
You don't need to throw OE away just yet, you can duplicate your account settings in there.
If you prefer that Thinderthing, use it, if not, not.
Any transisition can be easy or painful, it all depends your specific setup, we cannot predict that.
In general, there should not be an issue.

Marc

Yah try it out, installing Tbird wont affect anything. I use TBird, been on it since last winter. I switched over cause OE was starting to jam up and I didnt want to deal with all those fixes.
I like it, its VERY user friendly. And you can skin it, d/l created ones, or if you have the time make your own. Thumbs up from me.

JohnBates,
Depending on who you hold your email account(s) with, as it works fine with most, but if you use Netscape/ Hotmail (uses an Http server)

From Thunderbird Site,
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Can I access my Netscape WebMail or Hotmail accounts through Thunderbird?
No. Netscape WebMail and Hotmail use proprietary protocols. To access WebMail directly through an e-mail client requires you to use Netscape 6+ with AIM; to do so with Hotmail requires either Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express. There are also freeware applications available that will let you do the same thing, such as Hotmail Popper.
Another example is Gotmail, which is a utility to non-interactively download email from a Hotmail account. It can download messages from all folders, messages from certain folders, or new messages only. There are options to delete downloaded messages or mark them as read. Gotmail can forward messages to other email addresses or save them as local mbox-style mailboxes.
Of course, you can access your WebMail account on the Web at or Hotmail at ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hope this helps
