Hi, whenever I log into my PC the thing tries to connect to the internet, plus I keep getting shorcuts on my desktop to casino websites eventhough I have never been to one. I keep deleting these but they come back, plus I have used Ad-aware 6 to check for spyware but it finds nothing. I have looked in the registry for anything that runs at startup (in HKEY_Local_Machine > Software > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Run) but can't find anything unusual.....what can I do to stop this PC trying to start the internet and clean it etc?

Have you also looked in HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Run ?

Also suggest getting a program such as Spybot-S&D which scan your whole computer for adware and spyware that has been installed.

SpyBot -
Also check your startup folder if anything has been entered in there.

install Ad Aware 6.0 by Lavasoft. It is free and is, in my opinion, the best adware/spyware utility out there. You can google for it or go to and search for ad aware.

Thanks all I will take a look, but plz read all of my post as I state that I have used ad-aware 6 ..... I will post back my results.

Seems silly, I know, but check in your add/remove programs. I found "programs" there that I'd never heard of (Tools for Internet Explorer) that turned out to be spam. That would be my suggestion. Good luck.

Could also be the windows messenger service if you're using win2k??? Goto Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services and go down through the list and stop the one thats called Messenger. To make sure its definitely stopped you can try the NET commands in dos. Have fun!
