Think .dll may be corrupt. Any ideas?

Hi guys

Complete n00b to oracle i'm afraid. I don't even know if this is the right place to post this query so any advice (even to post elsewhere) appreciated.

We have an oracle database which i'm trying to connect to from Excel / MSQuery / Access / VB - pretty much anything really using either Microsoft ODBC for oracle or a DSN which uses SQ032_73.dll.

Whenever i try connecting from any of the above progs i get a program error stating Program.exe has generated errors and needs to close etc. Also the same when i try to connect from ODBCT32.exe which is in the same folder as the dll.

Can anyone let me know if this is a corruption in the dll and how i can get round it please?

Apologies again for my n00b-ness

Sugarflux,

If it weren't for the fact that Oracle quit supporting version 7 when my adult children were in elementary school, I would suggest that you contact Oracle Technical Support for assistance.

Is there a good business reason that you (and your organization) are not using at least a version that Oracle supports?

I work for one of the largest companies, world-wide. You'd be surprised.

The hard and fast fact of the matter is expense. The company won't stump up so we're stuck with it - at least for the moment.

(On a side note when i left my last company 18 months ago they still had a least a couple of users using Windows 95...)

So no ideas anyone ?

This is absolutely no reflection on you, Sugarflux. My intent in bringing up the "version issue" is to help you build a case for your company's acquiring currently supported software. So, please indulge me a couple of last comments, which you can then ignore and attribute to my being eccentric. <grin>

Your company's staying with Oracle7 as a matter of expense is like expecting you to travel from L.A. to N.Y., but require you to travel via Model-T to keep costs down.

"...one of the largest companies, world-wide" should be able to afford a blanket maintenance agreement with Oracle, which qualifies your company for no-additional-charge updates of Oracle software up to the most current versions.

I'm just suggesting that your company's corporate approach is like stepping over a $10 bill to pick up a dime.

So, getting back on your issue...I Googled for "SQ032_73.dll" and found only this reference, which may, or may not be useful. You might even be able to contact the persons that contributed to that link's solution.

Let us know if that link yields up any solution for you.

Hi SantaMufasa

No offence taken whatsoever - just glad of the help one way or another. I'm in complete agreement with you - not being on the latest version is false economy and if you were to see the database i have to work with you would have some sort of fit. Misplaced indexes with a 'customer contact details' table with a missing vital field that means attempting to look up a customers' name and address can take as long as 8 hours on our systems.

False economy indeed - in fact i have suggested several times we migrate on to SQL Server.

Back to the issue anyhow, thanks for the link you've provided to the thread relating to driver.ini. I can't find a driver.ini on my system and the problem doesn't seem to be solved either (the last post is 'any help would be appreciated'). I wonder if this could be something to do with the odbc.ini? In case it might be and anyone can offer any advice.. i'm going to post my odbc.ini file below.

aire_cap1 is the connection i'm trying to make. Any application i attempt to use this through crashes with a Program Error. Please help - any help at all appreciated!
