We are looking at migrating to 6 but we need to look at a thinclient solutions.

Hi.
Can you be a little more specific on what you're looking for?

NetWare 6 has some good resource-friendly technologies, but I'd need more details before I can give you any good answers.

thanks

We have 400 user and are running netware 5.1 ,
We have in place three citrix server running version 1.8.

The problem is we run a finance application deployed in fox pro that seats on our Netware servers, so when users want to lanuch this the apps on the citrxi meta farm it takes 30 sec longer for the novell mapping and the behind the login to take place.

We have NDS for Nt on our PDC of the Citrix farm. and the password don't sink up that well.

Just wondering what the best solution is for a termail solution in a novell set. Or do we look at moving to Windows 2003

So if I understand correctly, your users have thin clients. They boot up their machines & connect to the terminal server (citrix) to get access to their files & also the app? They get all network services through their citrix connection?

There are a couple of things that I could suggest right now & maybe a couple more after you verify my assumptions above.
1) Slowness that you're experiencing may be due to the hardware of the terminal servers, their load, etc.... can you tell me the specs of those servers? Maybe throwing more hardware would speed Citrix up.
2) One other potential speed problem could be the network traffic generated between the Citrix box & the NetWare box when opening that database.
3) NDS for NT was never the greatest product. I would recommend that you look into Account Management. It works much better & will actually help you down the road to Single Signon
4) If your NetWare servers are really only doing file, print, and Directory services, and that's all you want, I don't see any compelling reason for you to upgrade to NetWare 6. If, however, you want to introduce advanced services like iPrint, iFolder, NetStorage, WebAccess, built-in clustering, etc, then I'd recommend that you definitely upgrade to NetWare 6. Personally, I think NetWare 6 is extremely compelling.

Under no circumstances would I ever tell somebody to "upgrade" to any Microsoft product (unless, of course, I really wanted the person to suffer).

However if you don't heed my advice & decide to go the MS way, PLEASE don't deploy a brand new operating system from them.

So, if you could, tell me if my assumptions were correct & we'll continue the dialog.

The citrix servers are dual 500 with 512 meg of ram dell 2300,

I would like to add the ifolder and iprint, The thing is we are a small shop and have only 400 user which are mainly laptops. We are running Novell, Nt, windows 2000.

But if I can speed thing up and stay with Novell. I would be happy. So the Account manager is much better.

Thanks for the additional info.

iFolder & iPrint are very compelling products. I would also add NetStorage & NetDrive to the list of great products for remote (laptop) users.

With a combination of those four products, which are all part of NetWare 6, you can....
1)Print from anywhere to your corporate printers
2)Keep data synchronized between the laptops & the server
3)Get your files from anywhere

If you'd like any help with these web services, you can see my How-To document in this forum or just ask some questions.... there are many bright people here.

As for your other issues, I think that Account Management would work much better for you than does NDS for NT.

Good luck
Bill
