Hi,

I am trying to upgrade v 9.1 to Sp4a on a windows 2000 server but am gettting the following message

"There is no BkupExec instance name specified for SQL Server. Install will not be able to install the databases needed to run Backup Exec."

Can anyone assist?

You are trying to use SQL to hold the settings for BE and don't have SQL set up to do it.

You don't have to use SQL, BE comes with it's own DB. If you're intentionally using SQL instead (and there are good reasons to in some situations) you need to go through the setup docs and get SQL ready.

Thx for the reply lawnboy but am using MSDE 2000 SP3a and not a full version of SQL.

Yeah, sorry, just noticed you said "upgrade to Sp4a" not "upgrade to v 9.1".
