Basically when I boot my laptop it comes up fine and the VERY last thing it does, after my NT login script runs and stuff is a little Windows Setup box appears and it clears my desktop wallpaper. Any idea where I can find that and turn it off?

There is nothing in autoexec.bat or in windows/start menu/start up

Thanks )

You could try looking in:
start-programs-accessories-system tools-system information-tools-system configuration utility-startup.

In here you will find several startup programs which don't show anywhere else (they will show in the registry as well actually). It might just be in here. Failing that, you might have to trawl through the registry to find your problem. James Goodman

Since you are on a network, this could be happening due to system policies put in place by the network administrator. If this is the case, there's not much you can do...

You will probally find that some how a mandatory profile is beeing run on your machine search for *.man and see if it is being loaded locally if it is rename this and see if this cures the problem this can also be done with system policey file which wil be in either your net logon folder on the NT server or it can be loaded locally do asearch for *.pol if either of these are being loaded from the nt server you can not do anything. unless you want to do some nt hacking, if you can get on the nt server and boot from a floopy e-mail me and i will tell you how to hack the system.

Nope, none of the above suggestions have helped... I have no *.man or *.pol files - I've looked through the registry but some guiadance on what to search for woudl be helpful... (I've looked for wallpapaer, desktop, *.bmp)

It's not coming from the NT script because it's worked fine for many many months and my other comp is fine as is my co-workers.

I've been thinking it may have something to do with a network management tool from SolarWinds.com, is anyone familliar with that?

when your logging on Try holding down the shift key until your hard drie has stopped working, then if your wallpapper hasnt changed then its probley a program in your startup folder run these one by one to find the colprit then delete it out of your start up folder.

is your network running RM Connect Because connects user manager has a feture to not allow users to save there desktops so when they log on its just how the Administrator Left it!.

Great for schools!!!!

hope this helps.

No we aren't running RM connect and the only thing in my startup folder is Norton Virus Updater. This is not a shared machine, but a personal laptop and it does this whether it's connected to the network or not. It seems like it's a line in autoexec.bat (but it's not) becuase it shows the wallpaper fine until the very last second then it clear to that flat teal colour.

Back to surfing the syseditor to see if I can find a wierd line in there again (

Hi,
I have exactly the same problem on my windows 95 PC (see two or three posts ahaed) and I have no idea why. One of the answers to my post made me thing that it has something to to with a new version of the MDAC which I installed, which was also for Windows2000. If you find a solution I would be happy to learn about it.
