Hi,

I dont know where I am going with this one? I was wandering if it would be possible to configure software to act as a softmodem for a mobile phone with out a inbuilt modem.

What do I mean?
Well I have a Nokia 3310 for example, no inbuilt modem, and the phone it self is on a Digital Network. My laptop, no inbuilt modem, but I have a microphone socket and a speaker socket.

I seam to remember in the good ol' days when we had to use tapes to load software all it was, was an anologe link using audio. sure it was slow as hell but surly the same prinsable could be used here.

What I am trying to get at here is the possibility of using lowend hardware for basic access to email, internet maybe even fax.

If there is a possibility of a pure Soft modem, maybe there could be a market for it. Any one ever thought of this before? or am I just being completly stupid?

Let me know

You're talking about 1980's technology with the handset listening devices. Somehow I don't think there is a real market for this. A cellular phone does not have the reliability or voice quality of a landline phone. I would imagine the possibility of errors would be much too high.
