I have been trying to deal with this error for the past 2 week. This error comes when i try to use a link created by a subscribed report.

The report server encountered an unhandled exception in HttpApplication. (rsUnhandledHttpApplicationError) Get Online Help
c:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS10_50.MSSQLSERVER\Reporting Services\ReportServer\Pages\ReportViewer.aspx(78): error CS0012: The type 'System.Web.UI.IScriptControl' is defined in an assembly that is not referenced. You must add a reference to assembly 'System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35'.

i tried adding the assembly in the web.config file, but it does not help.

Your help will be highly appreciated

are you using any custom security?

Hi xlbo

Thanks for your respond

in terms of security i'm not sure, because this machine i remote to it, is not local

regards

The only reference for that error I can find is to do with the usage of custom security. It seems to be more of a C# / AJAX error rather than anything to do with SSRS itself. i.e. something to do with the report manager or SSRS installation rather than the report (unless the report does some security checking). Is this the only subscription that generates an error or is this for all subscriptions?

Also, what is the format of the subscription? is it email? if so what output format has been defined? Presumably you get this as you have added a link to the report on the email? If that is the case and you are remote then it may simply be that there is a security conflict as you are outside a firewall...

So you saying by adding the assembly is not going to help, as the error says the assembly is needed?

I guess the question is whether all subscriptions show this behaviour or just this one. If all then it seems like a security error but if it is the solution may be related to either the install of SSRS, usage of custom security or the fact that you are possibly outside the firewall. It may not be as simple as just adding the assembly in but if it was a bad install of SSRS then ot may be - you could test this by asking a local user to create a subscription and seeing if they see the same issue

If only this subscription gives the error but others work then it may be corruption within the rdl file - you may be better off re-creating the report and the subscription

Are you trying to use the link outside of the company firewall?

Hmmm - I'm afraid I'm out of my knowledge zone on this one - seems like it is more of a web infrastructure setup issue. Report Manager is an ASP.NET app - might be worth seeing if you can get an answer in one of the ASP.NET or C# forums
