I have windows 2k server sp2. There was some problem on boot having to do with hardware. That is fixed and now the server boots and Windows 2000 server comes up ok. However, when I try to go into Active Directory users and computers I get the following error:
Cannot display objects from this location because of the following error: The target pricipal name is incorrect.

When I go to the console and click on Active directories users and computers I get the following error:
Naming information cannot be located because
The target principal name is incorrect

Thus, I cannot change passwords or rights along with a few other problems.
Can anyone help me with this?

How long has this been in production? Can you run dcpromo, demote it the dcpromo and promote it again? Check you event logs for clues also. You can do a search on for error event id's if they show that they are concerned with AD. Glen A. Johnson

It has been in production for over a year. It has been the only windows 2k server on the domain, only 14 users so no other windows 2k server. I have never had to run DC promo.
I do have event ID 13562, Could not bind to a domain controller
1655 Unknown username of bad password
1126 Unable to establish connectin with global catalog
Event ID 1000
Event ID 33
There are other but those are the ones that seem pertinent. Any ideas?
John

I'm a bit confused. You have stand alone servers and domain contollers. Active Directory is run on Domain Controllers, usually with more than one dc so they can replicate, though this is not necessary. If you didn't run dcpromo, somebody before you did. You make a stand alone server a domain controller by running dcpromo. I do have event ID 13562, Could not bind to a domain controller is a clue that this is a domain controller. Need a few more details. Something doesn't sound quite right. Thanks. Glen A. Johnson
