The other side of pipes

Ok, I've gtten how to read from an exe or the system with a pipe with the aid of StillFlame and Mike, now I need to make a program I have workable much like sendmail is. I need to open an incomming pipe and have the program on the other side of the pipe read the switch and process the information before returning it. How can I read what switch is passed and the information from the other side of the pipe?

It was @ARGV
