Howdy all,

I am on a quest of sort to find the latest nwagent. I use Acrserve 2000 to back up a few Netware boxes. I put in a request a few months ago asking for a link to the latest nwagent and was sent the URL PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: NT -NWAGENT-CAN NOT BROWSE NDS OBJECT AFTER SP3. There was an nwagent.nlm dated 2-22-02 and fstape2.nlm dated 1-09-02

Since that time it seems that that page has been pulled but can be found at:
The .old make me think that the patch has been pulled. I have put in a support request to verify this.

Today searching around for the latest "official version" the best I could find was under both:
http:/esupport.ca.com/Download/patches/asnw7/QO05996.html
APAR #: QO05996 DATE: 26 NOV 2001
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: NET-CUMULATIVE PATCH WITH NETWARE 6 SUPPORT

In that file are updates for nwagent.nlm dated 10-23-01 but not any fstape2.nlm.

Considering how imperfect Arcserve is and all the nwagnet problems there are and how patches to fix certain problems ussually help with others, it is ridiculous for me to do installs with the almost 2 year old nwagent/fstape/etc nlms that come on even my latest(ie 1 month old) nwagent install cds.

Of course with CA there is nothing in plain view to update the agents and hunting is alway necessary so I was wondering if anyone else had found anything? Even if anyone did not I hope these URLs can help some of you as I have installed both of these in the past and they have fixed some of my problems. I now am worried that the 2-22-02/1-09-02 updates have something wrong with them and that's way the got pulled. The one server I had them on started acting funky during backups but unfortunately a few other things happened around the same time so I can't attribute it to the agent yet. BTW the file dates mentioned are stamps on the .nlm files themselves not on the reported dates in the nlm loader.
Regards,
Mike

Got another stellar response from CA regarding my query about the NWagent patch and what the latest version is:

"Hi,
The latest patch netware agent is the one that comes with the arcserve 2000 CD with the build of 151.xxx , the patch is now temporarly not available ."

No clue on why it was pulled even though I specifically asked. They directed me towards it and then pulled it and won't even tell me why.

I find it really sad that with all the problems that the Nwagent has that CA hasn't been able to release a viable patch in almost 2 years. I have been using the Netware 6 patches for most of my servers and the "pulled" one on a server that will not work for more than 3 days(It just locks up and won't unload) with any other version. Anyone have better luck finding any new versons?

Regards,
Mike

I'm really disappointed about Arcserve 2000 / nwagent on NW5.1 or NW6. I thought last week I found a functionnal NW6 SP1- NWagent 02/2002 version combination, BUT after a minor modification in my backup job (some locked files exclusion), the NW6 server abends in libc.nlm (caused by an invalid call in nwagent.nlm) each time a backup job starts!!!!!!

AAAARRRRGH!

It's a shame an enterprise like CA is not even capable of generating a small program like nwagent that WORKS.

I'm on my way to consider using Veritas products and throw that CA sh... in the grave!
