hi, i recently bought a newe computer, w/out a hardrive, which i moved from my pentium 166, to my new machine, amd k6-2 500.

keeps giving me the windows protection error, do i need to underclock, install patch, then clock back up or something?

this is super annoying. :)

btw, need true dos, to run datacad, my house plan design program,

actually, this is my grandpa im talking about, he doesnt need a fast comp, so i picked him up one today, and this dumb error is really annoying.

I don't recommend switching architectures like that. Your best bet is to either

a: Reinstall completely

or

B: Run the hardware-tree rebuild setup. Start from your boot disk, switch to your CD, and run

SETUP /P F

accept the defaults

This will rebuild the hardware tree.

Any security fixes, patches, browser updates will have to be reapplied after doing this.

Easier way.
Boot to safe mode, run regedit, remove completely, the hardware ENUM key.
REstart, let all the hardware reinstall.

OR: Safe mode, remove EVERYTHING from device manager.
Restart, reinstall. Cheers,

thx all. someone else told me that i needed an amd k6-2 driver or something...

the problem is, is that the cpu was set to 500, and i need it below 300... i got it at 200 right now, so im gonna try it and see, after that, i get windows running, install the patch, and then clock it back up to 500, or maybe even 550. :)

g'day to all

TIA
