Hi there !

I'm running an Access-app in a WAN and I'm having some problems. I have a report generator that until recently has worked just fine. The difference is that now all the users use the same Access.exe file and the same .mdb file. The problem is that the function that generates the report doesn't even seem to start when more than one user run the program at the same time. I don't get an error message but nothing happens. Does anyone have an answer for this ?

Best regards

It appears that you have an Access backend and VB frontend. Keep the Access backend on a server and a VB frontend on each user's local drive.

Is this an add-on report generator, or was it written internally? The reason I ask is that sometimes this is intentional to prevent more than one user per license, but more likely that it is not handling the multi-user environment via code (again either intentionally or overlooked).

The function has an error handler - that is one possible reason for not getting any errors. If possible, why not make a copy of the program with a different name, add some additional code to trap the error(s) and look at the multi-user section of a real good Access book. There is usually a whole chapter dedicated to this subject alone. Then, have your co-workers assist you by attempting to access the db at the same time.

In the end, the easiest resolution may indeed be as llkhoutx has suggested - it just depends on how the program has been written.

Good luck,
Ken Hood
