Good afternoon. Every time I reboot or log off my pc I get a window popping up saying the above and asking if I want to replace the existing file. Any ideas why and how to get rid of it? Thanks.

Hi, Colleen

On Tools menu, go to Macro, and then Security.
Set macro security to Medium.

On the Trusted Publishers tab, clear the check box for Trust all installed add-ins and templates. Select each Trusted Publisher in the Issued to column, and remove.

Exit and restart Word.

If using Norton, disable Office Plug-in.

If still unhappy, please repost.

Please clarify when exactly you get this error message. Does it come up when closing Word, or when you "reboot or log off [your] pc"?

Accoring to this (first hit when Googling "normal.dot already exists") it is likely due to a third-party addin.

Are you currently using or have ever used Symantec/Norton Anti-Virus on your computer? The error is indicative of an Office Plug-in from Symantec/Norton Anti-Virus. Search your computer for a file named OFFICEAV.DLL. A common location would be "C:\Program Files\Norton Antivirus\OFFICEAV.DLL". Once you have found the file, you will need to unregister it. Run the following command by clicking Start and then Run. In the 'Run' box, copy and paste the command below. You may need to replace the file path if the OFFICEAV.DLL file resides in a different location on your computer.

regsvr32 /u "C:\Program Files\Norton Antivirus\OFFICEAV.DLL"

Have a look at the link below, which provides more detail on the issues that may cause this message.

Xlhelp, thank-you. That fixed the issue perfectly.

Anotherhiggins, the pop up only occured when rebooting or logging off, not when exiting Word.

Illogicallylogical, nope never used Norton Antivirus.

Thanks all!
