I am having a problem with a client agent on a Windows 2000 server.

It is the Client Agent for Windows NT/2000 Admin Version 7.0.

The agent was installed, licensed, and functioning properly last week.

Today I made a modification (removed a pre and post execution program setup in the client) and stopped and then tried to restart the service.

The service now refuses to start.

I get the following info in the event log:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7031
Date: 10/13/2003
Time: 12:34:53 PM
User: N/A
Computer: PORTAL
Description:
The Client Agent for ARCserve service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 9 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 0 milliseconds: No action.

If I try to restart the service from the client it runs for about a second or two and then stops.

After reading other posts I have:

Relicensed the software through RegisterIT .
Upgraded the client (SP4 takes it from build 1037 to 1050).
Uninstalled and reinstalled and relicensed.
Modified user rights for sharing and security on local HDs.

All my attempts have been unsucessful.

Any ideas on how to get my service running again?

Thanks,
Michelle

Most of the time these kinds of errors have to do with licensing. Check the Windows 2000 application log and the lic98.log (located in the CA_LIC directory) for licensing errors.

I firmly believe that Arcserve2000 SP4 causes more problems than it fixes. I dont know, thats my perception. I had my backups working and loaded this sp4 and things went to hell. I suggest dont do unless you have too.
