Ok just for starters im starting a mini project where I plan to archive most of my data onto HD's.

I plan to have multiple HD's set up in one puter. I plan to run this over a couple of months so im buying the least value changing pieces first and ill get the critical stuff later and report on the way.

I bought this Case and a couple of accessories called stackers
h**p://
CA-061-CM Coolermaster Stacker 4in3 Device Module (CA-061-CM) x 2
CA-059-CM CoolerMaster Stacker STC-T01 - Blue Trim (No PSU) (CA-059-CM) x 1

I plan to buy 1 more stacker so that would give me a maximum HD capacity for 12 drives in the stacking units, and leave 2 of the drives at the top free for DVD-Rom and Burner.

Now whatever mobo I go for its probable going to have 2 (maybe 4) IDE channels and 2 Sata channels although this is not the deciding factor at the moment.

Now I plan to get 3 ATA/SATA 4 channel PCI cards to hook the 12 HD's into. Then Hook the other 2 DVD roms and the main driving HD's (prob raptors) into into the mobo's ide/sata channels.

so I am aiming for this set up

[M O T H E R B O A R D]
[SATA] [IDE] [PCI]
| | |
(2xraptors) | |
| |
(2xDVD) |
|
[3x4 sata/ide controllers]
|
(12 sata/ide HD)

[COMPUTER CASE]
IDE-> (DVD_Rom)
IDE-> (Burner)
SATA-> (2x74GB)
Stack1 (4x200GB)
Stack2 (4x200GB)
Stack3 (4x200GB)

Now also pricing for 200GB looks quite good at the moment but that could change. If i went with the 200's then I could have 2.4TB archive storage and 150GB main drive with a couple of raptors.

Any thoughts at this stage would be appreciated.
