I'd like to hear from experienced web application developers about this please. I am a new .Net developer developing an ASP.Net web application. This is my first full-blown, make from scratch, real-world ASP application. I've amde a couple of simple ASP applications, but this is my first biggie. So I want to know how you all develop.

Specifically, I want to know if you use a test machine in a ddition to your live production boxes when you develop and stuff like that. Here's what I have and what I'm doing currently:

Development box: my laptop running Windows 2000 Pro, now loaded with the .Net framework.

Development tool: I've been using InterDev 6 on my laptop.

Production server: Our web server at work running Windows 2000 Server. I'll be loading the .Net framework onto it soon.

I would appreciate options or advice as to how best to set up my development environment and tools. I'm thinking I still need a test machine and or some way to access my server, or install one onto my laptop, so I can develop and test server-side things when I'm away from the office. I do have high-speed VPN access to the office from home so I can work from there no problem. But I'm wondering if I should or can install a server of some sort onto my laptop without re-building it from scratch. Thanks.
