okay, my apologies if posting this is insulting to the intelligence of the "regulars" of this group. but i'm in the process of building a report server for a healthcare software package. i'm instructed to install Crystal Reports 10 and then Crystal Enterprise 10. well, i'm having issues after teh Enterprise install, but considering i know NOTHING about Crystal to begin with i though it would be better to clarify the difference between Reports and Enterprise. we have 2 other servers here that have similar setups (with both Reports and Enterprise installed) and i just don't understand the basic concept of the product. i've tried the Business Objects site, but that hasn't helped at all. can someone give me the "man on the street" perspective on this/these products? then i'll worry about my install issue. thanks!

Crystal Reports is a Desktop tool for creating report content (templates) saved as *.RPT files.

Crystal Enterprise is a Server tool for storing, hosting, scheduling and running the *.RPT files. It also has a Web Component called ePortfolio / InfoView to allow users to access, view, run reports within a web-browser.

thank you so much. short and clear. i'm not sure why the vendor requires Reports on the server instead of having certain (aka App Admins) load it on their workstation if they are creating reports, but i have to follow their requirements. thanks again. now on to posting my problem with the installation....

Hi,
Depending on licensing, there can be a problem having multiple users access a single copy of CR on a server - especially if multiple users can use it at the same time.

In most places I have seen, the CR designer is limited to report developer's desktops...

and since we don't let our users on the server, i'm betting the vendor wanted this on there in the event they have to remote in and troubleshoot something.
