Greetings.

I am installing some 5312 IP phones on an Mxe 3300 release MCD4.2. I am using a Win Server 2008 with Option 125 defined for DHCP.

The problem that I am experiencing is that some IP phones come up fine and some say TFTP svr unavailable continuing boot up, Starting Minet and then freeze on Set IP and ICP address. This is the case even if I enter Static IP addresses on the phone were relevant.

What could be causing this.

Thank you.

The phone is trying to connect to a TFTP server to compare firmware. The error is the phone saying it cannot establish a connection to the TFTP server defined in the DHCP options. Check the DHCP options for the TFTP server IP (usually the 3300 controller), and ensure that UDP port 69 is open between the phones and the device acting as the TFTP server. Also check the static settings on the phone to ensure a different TFTP server is not defined there.

I have run into certain sites that you have to input the address of the system for both the TFTP and ICP. All depends on the network config for that site.

Always look out for the next guy because it may be you!

Maybe the firmware of these sets don't know option 125, try a static address with all the necessary values set.

Thank you for your responses. My TFTP sever is the 3300. I have a total of 30 phones. 25 of them have worked fine with the same Option 125 but 5 are the only ones with the TFTP issue.

I guess if the issue is that they don't know Option 125 as suggested by jpruder I should then define Option 128+ and see if they work. In the mean time more suggestions required.

Thank you.

Could you try a non working phone in a known working network port to eliminate a network issue.

when the phone sticks on Set & ICP address this is because it cannot communicate with the PBX even though it is aware of its address. If this is the case even with static addressing, I would suggest you look at your switch port configuration.
Sarond's suggestion is the way to go for me.
