If the tftp server with the 46xx config files on it is not available or not reachable, could 46xx ip phones that go through a reset still register and work?

sure, they just won't get any settings that are in the 46xxsettings.txt file that may have changed. They will have the last version of the 46xxsettings.txt file that was loaded (cached)... They also won't check for firmware updates, etc.

The reason I ask is, I have a site with an LSP. When the internet connection drops between the main and remote the ip sets on the remote side do not register with the lsp on the remote side. I asked if the DHCP option included the LSP ip address in the string, and it was, so what prevents an ip 4610 from registering?

That is not only uneeded, but is actually detrimental.

create a node-name with the name of that sites LSP.

Put this node-name on the "ip-network-region" form, for that location, on page 2, under "SURVIVABLE PROCESSOR IN PRIORITY ORDER" (or something like that). The LSP IP is transmitted to the IP phones, when they register, and they get a copy of the updated H323 gatekeepr list.

By putting the LSP's IP in the "MCIPADD=" line on the DHCP server, you cause a problem, because the phones can't distinguish between active and inactive H323 gatekeepers, so in normal operation, you may end up with phones saying "Discover x.x.x.x" which is the IP of the LSP.

AVAYA Advises AGAINST putting the LSP IP in the DHCP Option string, at least for all newer versions of CM (CM 3, 4, and 5)

I will check and get back, how about putting the LSP ip as a second point ie MCIPADD= main server ip, lsp ip, etc etc.?

sCOOTie, don't do it, it is not needed. only put "live" IP's in the DHCP SSON line "MCIPADD=" option

Ok I will take that as gospel. If the option is correct and the network region settings are correct and the ip sets do not register with LSP while going into LSP mode what else could be wrong?

have the IP sets been registered to the main site, without being powered down? If there has been a power failure, the IP phones won't have the updated H323 gatekeeper list, and might not be aware of the local LSP.

If the phones had previously been registered to the main site, and no power failure has occured (locally), the phones should still have the LSP in the dynamiclly downloaded H323 gatekeeper list, so they should register.

I am not familiar with the gatekeeper list, where is that created?

It is dynamiclly built from the IP's given out in the DHCP Option #176/#242 AND H323 gatekeepers that are LSP's, given out in the "ip-network-region" form, page 2 "SURVIVABLE GATEKEEPERS IN PRIORITY ORDER"

that is used when you have a G250/G350 or G450 setup with "SLS" (local survivability without an S8300LSP)

Ok I got some serious testing and checking, thank you.
