I have a 3300ICP on a LAN with 5 buildings phones in 4 of the five came up with no problem but this particular site
gives trouble. On Friday,we could not get any phones to
come up.What was happening was the phone will obtain an IP
address and would keep resetting.Late on Friday the phones came up waiting for pin to be entered.Monday got a call that a particular phone was not working.Tried all day
but got TFTP err: 4 message. What will cause this error.

the problem is in the DHCP settings for option 128 and or 129 (or 125 with rel 7)

The RTC and TFTP addresses are typically set to the local 3300 controller.

Try statically assigning an IP to the phone to eliminate DHCP issues. If this works, correct the DHCP issue.

Another possible issue is if the phones and the controller are on different subnets (or VLANS), the routing between them is not properly defined on the network.

After sometime the phone came up.
No vlan's used.

Problem area has a cisco switch.
All other sites has smartswitch switches.

I have had several issues with Cisco. The DHCP process seems to take a lot longer than it should. I believe there is something that the Cisco is waiting for before passing on the DHCP request. in the meantime the set times out.

Glad things worked out.
