Textarea -> HTML !?

Hello,

I would like to do the following:

1. copy text from a Word file and paste it into a textarea field [no probs so far ;-)]

2. On submit.cfm the layout should be 'translated' to HTML. e.g.: tables/ bullet lists/ bold/ italic/ underlined/...

3. It is NOT necessary to edit the text in the textarea, e.g. put other text into bold. Just the copy/paste will do it.

Does anyone know how to do this? Or can you point me to a site where I can find it?

People like Word docs. Don't convert it to HTML simply because you think it will be more accessible. Remember, CF can index DOCs and PDFs into searchable collections as easy as HTML.

If you still want to convert it, the simplest method is to use Word to make the html.

From MS word 2000:
FILE > SAVE AS WEB PAGE

or FILE > SAVE AS
and change save as type to HTML

The only way I know you can do this is by using CFDEV.com's CF tag called Activedit:

It uses ActiveX and only works in IE.

You can paste from MS Word and it will keep alot of the formating, tables, bullets, etc. Then it writes the HTML for you.

I've never tried it, other than the online demo, so I'm can't give any kind of endorsement. You'll have to check it out for yourself.

Hello,

Indeed in my search to a sollution I came across Active Edit, but it's not free. And before spending so much money, I want to look for a free alternative. But you're right, what ActiveEdit does is exactly what I'm looking for, although it doesn't have to be 'so complex', a light version of Active Edit would be more than enough.

Keeping the text in Word Files is not an option! My customer wants to put his newsletters on-line in html format. The source is MS Word.

Have you find an easy way to do that ? A free one ? I'm also looking to edit html but not as advanced as Activedit.

EZEdit is free and does this.

Another solution (definitely not free) is from ActivePDF.
It's DocGrabber and other tools can convert an entire Word Doc or directory of docs into PDF files or HTML.

Also, you can put Word docs online if you just link to them and you're using IE.
